Filecoin has officially become the Flow blockchain storage partner.
Filecoin said in an October 13 announcement that the move was part of a push to ensure that NFTs from owners and issuers are “securely available everywhere”.
The announcement follows an earlier move in August in which Dapper Labs worked on integrating Filecoin storage services into the Flow Blockchain.
The collaboration allows Flow users to coin NFT, take advantage of Interplanetary File System (IPFS) content addressing, and store tokens on the decentralized storage hosted by Filecoin.
According to Filecoin, IPFS content routing is a location routing solution that pulls information online from specific locations on the web, such as behind URLs. Filecoin claims that this method has “obvious drawbacks” as the data relies on centralized entities that own the locations and can therefore “control the content.”
“With content-based routing, content is no longer retrieved from unique locations on the web. Instead of this, Content is obtained from each participating node on the IPFS network that has the requested content.Filecoin explained.
As part of the cooperation, Filecoin has also opened Next Step Grants worth $ 5,000 for each eligible NFT project in Flow that is integrated with IPFS or the Filecoin network.
“As the Flow ecosystem grows, Filecoin’s decentralized storage solution will enable future applications built on top of Flow to easily protect NFT media assets and metadata.”says the ad.
