Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Wednesday that the state’s reopening will begin next Monday, despite excluding Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties from the process.
“Florida will take a step. Small, deliberate, methodical, and based on consulting some of our best doctors for a more useful future,” DeSantis said at a press conference picked up on CNN television. “We will get Florida back on its feet with a safe, intelligent and step-by-step approach,” he added.
In particular, DeSantis has stated that education will continue to be remote and that visits to nursing homes are still prohibited, but certain operations may still be performed again. Bars, gyms, personal care services such as hairdressing salons and cinemas remain closed.
The restaurants can be reopened as long as they offer tables outside and two meters apart. The interiors must be limited to 25 percent of their capacity.
