Floods from heavy rains in China have left more than 200 dead and missing since June

Chinese authorities reported this Thursday that the floods caused by heavy rains recorded in the country since last June have left at least 219 dead and missing so far.

In a press conference, Deputy Minister of Emergency Management Zhou Xuewen pointed out that the rains and mudslides caused more than 173,000 million yuan in damage.

In addition, according to the state newspaper ‘China Daily’, around 63 million people were affected by the floods, which severely damaged around 54,000 households.

The number of people affected is 12.7 percent higher than the last five years, according to calculations by the Chinese government, which show that mortality from rain has decreased over the same period of weather.
