Former Mexican President Felipe Calderón this Sunday expressed his support for the National Anti-AMLO Front (FRENAAA), which camps in central Mexico City to protest against President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, known as AMLO .
“There may be coincidences or inconsistencies with FRENAAA, but what no Democrat would argue with is that the government is violating the right of peaceful Mexican citizens to meet, demonstrate and walk the streets of Mexico. My solidarity with them,” has stated Calderón on Twitter.
Hundreds of people camped on central Avenida Juárez on Saturday to demonstrate against management of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the day on this Sunday, the demonstrators prayed the rosary in a semicircle after Juarez to demand the departure of López Obrador from power.
López Obrador himself has assured that the freedom to demonstrate is guaranteed and that the members of the FRENAAA will not be disturbed. He also recalled that he himself led a camping trip on Reforma Avenue after the controversial election of 2006.
