The Covid-19 has transformed the lives of some quite quickly. Every day more employees, educators and students are working and studying remotely because of the global health context. That is why Google wants to help them stay connected with the goal of not diminishing their productivity and can continue to carry out their activities wherever they are.
To do this, they have opened free access to the most advanced video conferencing features of Hangouts Meet for all of their G Suite and G Suite for Education customers worldwide.
G Suite and G Suite for Education are a collection of productivity tools that help businesses and education professionals collaborate in real time no matter where they are. The technological capacity of these tools can help reduce the impact of the closure of schools and offices in the most affected areas.
The functions that will be active globally are the following:
Meetings for more than 250 participants per call
Live streaming with the ability to support more than 100,000 viewers across a single domain
The ability to record virtual meetings and save them in Google Drive
Normally, these features are available in the Enterprise edition of G Suite and in G Suite Enterprise for Education, but from this week until July 1, 2020 they will be free for all customers of the technology platform at no additional cost.
How to start?
For administrators, video calls are enabled by default in G Suite, allowing users to make them through Hangouts Meet and in the classic version of Hangouts. If disabled, administrators can make the change in the main console by following the steps described in the G Suite Help Center . They can also activate streaming and real-time recording .
For G Suite Basic, Business, Nonprofit and G Suite for Education customers, these advanced features will be disabled by default and can be enabled at the group, domain or organizational unit level, that is, those groups that administrators can create for apply settings to a specific set of users.
For G Suite Enterprise and Enterprise for Education customers, these features are already available in your domain and will continue to respect your current configuration.
