Steven Van Gucht from the Federal Committee of Experts of the Belgian Health Service advised against traveling to Spain on Wednesday as the situation is “really delicate” due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The virologist and member of the assessment cell that sets the color code for the travel recommendations of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has told the Belgian media Sudinfo that there is “great concern” about the development of the pandemic in Spain.
“The incidence is increasing almost everywhere, more areas are moving into the ‘orange’ and ‘red’ zones and the measures are not strong enough everywhere. Therefore there is great concern for Spain,” said Van Gucht.
In particular, he has pointed to Aragon, Catalonia and the Basque Country as areas where the situation is more complicated, although he has also pointed to Madrid, “where the incidence rate is double that of Brussels”.
