Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that the country would remain vigilant until the coronavirus was “exterminated” and urged the population to use masks to avoid infection outside their homes.
“We are making progress in the fight against the pandemic. We are following a positive line with regard to newly infected, dead and intubated patients in intensive care units,” said the President, who pointed out that caution should still be exercised until the disease disappears.
According to Health Minister Fahretín Koca, the country has added 1,704 people infected and 53 other deaths in the last 24 hours. The death toll is close to 4,000 and the number of confirmed cases is already 141,475.
On the last day, 3,109 patients managed to overcome the disease, while the number of tests since the pandemic started is 1.4 million. The number of patients in the intensive care unit is 1,045, of which 576 are intubated.
