Emirates urges Iranian business partners to protest against “threats” following an agreement with Israel

August 16, 2020

The United Arab Emirates called on the Iranian business partner this Sunday to express their protest against the Iranian criticism of the agreement reached between the Emirati authorities and Israel to normalize bilateral relations.

Emirates condemns the “threats by Iranian President Hasan Rohani and other Iranian officials” against the agreement, which have been interpreted as “interference in internal affairs and an attack on sovereignty,” according to the official WAM news agency in the Emirates.

Iran described the normalization agreement as “strategic stupidity that will ultimately strengthen the current resistance front against Israel”. “The Palestinians will never forget this agreement that Abu Dhabi signed with the Israeli criminal regime,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement collected by ISNA.

Both the Palestinian government and the Islamist movement Hamas – the main authority in the Gaza Strip – have rejected the agreement. “The Palestinian leadership rejects and condemns the surprising trilateral announcement by the United Arab Emirates, Israel and the United States,” condemned Nabil Abu Rudeina, chief adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
