At least eleven people died in an attack by militiamen from the Cooperativa para el Desarrollo de Congo (CODECO) in the state of Ituri in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the UN mission station in the country, Radio Okapi, reported.
Among the deceased are four soldiers and three police officers who were killed this Saturday in Matete in the Djugu area near the Uganda border.
The area manager said there was “an ambush by the CODECO attackers” against the area’s “number two” convoy, Kiza Mateso. Two vehicles were attacked by CODECO militia officers around 11 a.m. on Saturday, about ten kilometers from Gina, despite the escort of the military and police.
Moroccan troops from the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) and the army quickly moved to the scene of the incident and prompted the attackers to flee.
