At least 11 people have been killed and 15 injured in a landslide in the neighborhood of La Gasca, north of Quito, after strong storms battered the Ecuadorian capital on Monday.
The National Service for Risk and Emergency Management of Ecuador (SNGRE) has confirmed after 9:40 p.m. (local time) that at least 11 people have died due to the storm, which also flooded streets, houses and vehicles, the newspaper collected ‘El Comercio’ .
“The SNGRE, the Ministry of Health, the police and other institutions are in La Gasca to treat the wounded and help the victims. Coordination with the local authorities will also be maintained. We will constantly monitor the emergency,” he said in a message on his official Twitter profile the President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso.
On the other hand, Quito’s Health Ministry has indicated in a statement that it “will provide comprehensive support to families in the area” to “ensure their physical and mental well-being.”
According to the Ecuadorian newspaper El Telégrafo, several emergency teams have moved to the area to carry out rescue work, treat the wounded and help the victims.
