El Salvador prosecutors are investigating the shooting of a union protest in the capital

The Attorney General of El Salvador announced Monday that it was opening an investigation to identify those responsible for suppressing a union protest in Soyapango municipality that injured three people, one of them seriously.

“We opened an investigation this morning in the Mayor’s office of Soyapango into the attempted murder of three people who were shot injured,” said Attorney General Raúl Melara on his Twitter account.

The rally was held this Monday by the Soyapango Workers’ Union (SITRASOYA) and the Municipal Workers Association (ASTRAM) to protest against the privatization of garbage disposal.

Some local media released a video showing several gunshots when the first protesters were stationed near the mayor’s office on Sunday evening.
