Egypt has a new daily maximum of coronavirus cases and exceeds the threshold of 22,000 infections

The Egyptian government announced a new daily maximum of coronavirus cases with around 1,300 new infections this Friday, stressing that this number has exceeded the 22,000 threshold and has recorded 879 deaths since the pandemic began.

Ministry of Health spokesman Jaled Megahed said 1,289 cases have been confirmed in the last 24 hours. This is the fourth day in a row that daily highs are chained, bringing the total number of infections to 22,082.

He also noted that 34 people died on the last day, a period in which 152 patients were discharged, which, according to the Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram, increases the total number of genes to 5,511.

Egyptian President Abdelfatá al Sisi on Thursday called for “solidarity” among the population in the face of the pandemic and criticized that “the country’s enemies are trying to question the state’s efforts”.
