Ecuador has confirmed more than 500 new cases of coronavirus and has almost 44,000 positive cases

Ecuador’s health authorities confirmed more than 500 new cases of coronavirus in the country this Tuesday, bringing the total number of people infected to around 44,000.

In particular, the Ecuadorian Emergency Operations Committee (COE) reported 539 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 43,917. The deaths total 3,690.

The COE balance collected by the newspaper “El Comercio” shows that the province of Guayas continues to lead the number of cases diagnosed at national level with 41.4 percent of the total or 14,475. Pichincha followed with 4,830 positives; Manabi, 2,950; Los Ríos, 1,808; and El Oro with 1,323 infected.

Of the confirmed deaths from COVID-19, most are also in Guayas (1,476). Manabí, Pichincha, Los Ríos and El Oro are behind with 492, 343, 234 and 198 respectively.

The President of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, declared a state of emergency due to the corona virus on March 12. The country currently has a traffic light system – red, yellow and green – that calibrates the situation in every Ecuadorian area and controls the return to normal.
