Ecuador has exceeded 82,000 cases of coronavirus after more than 1,500 cases have occurred in the past few hours, with Quito being the country’s main focus of infection, the Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday.
The Ecuadorian authorities have indicated that the balance is now 82,279 infected and 5,584 deaths, compared to 80,694 and 5,515 on Monday, respectively, adding 1,585 positive and 69 deaths within 24 hours.
The department headed by Juan Carlos Zevallos has indicated that out of the total number of confirmed cases, 18,495 received “epidemiological discharge”, 268 more than the previous day, at 18,227.
According to provinces, Guayas remains the most affected with 17,365 infections, followed by Pichincha with 14,139. In recent days, Quito, the capital of Pichincha and Ecuador, has overtaken Guayaquil, the capital of Guayas, in several cases.
“We have achieved the explosion of cases in Quito,” said the health minister last Friday. “We are in a critical but controlled situation,” he added to the Ecuadorian newspaper “El Universo”.
