The Ecuadorian Ministry of Health announced this Saturday that the country had crossed the 100,000 threshold of coronavirus cases by provisionally registering a total of 100,688 confirmed infections, of which 6,065 have died.
The Andean nation has recorded 1,279 new cases and 35 new deaths in the past 24 hours. It is the seventh largest in Latin America.
Of the 24 provinces, Pichincha (north-central), where the country’s capital is located, tops the list of infections with 20,304 cases, followed by Guayas (southwest), one of the first herd in Latin America with 18,289 patients.
The contagion trend has accelerated in Ecuador since early June, when mobility restrictions were eased to enter a “new normal” to reactivate the economy.
