The government of Ecuador announced this Friday that the country will transition from the “isolation phase” to the “distancing phase” in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, a phase that has been defined as “new,” as of May 4th. “
“The indicators of the progress of the pandemic encourage us to let them know that Ecuador will begin a transition from the isolation phase to the distancing phase on May 4th,” said Ecuadorian President Lenín Moreno.
The President justified the decision, which shows the data “slowing infection, better testing ability, significant decline in emergency services and decline in hospital care”.
However, Moreno has called for caution and warned that stricter measures will be taken if coronavirus cases grow again in Ecuador.
