At least 25 Nicaraguan health professionals have resigned, and four others have been discharged from public and private hospitals in the past few weeks for disagreeing with the coronavirus crisis. This comes from health system sources published by the Nicaraguan newspaper ‘La Press’.
According to this medium, the reason for the resignation is that the suspected cases of coronavirus with diagnoses are classified as “community-acquired pneumonia”, which would make proper treatment of the health emergency difficult.
Healthcare professionals have also complained about the lack of diagnostic tests for patients and workers and the lack of protective measures for workers, which would have resulted in resignations and layoffs.
“They tell you to take care of patients who may be infected without protection. They will also make you sick. It is as if they would send you to the front without a rifle or ammunition,” said the Vice President of the Nicaraguan Medical Association Department, Javier Núñez.
