Dominican Republic discovers the first case of the Omicron variant

The Dominican Republic’s health authorities this Saturday found the first case of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus on their territory in a person who had traveled from South Africa.

The person showed “mild symptoms, received outpatient care and is developing satisfactorily,” the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Public Health said in a statement.

Likewise, Dominican health authorities have reported a warning from the National Liaison Center for International Health Regulations of Chile, which “reported a case that traveled from the DR to Chile and tested positive for the Omicron variant on arrival in Chile.”
