Despite warnings from China, the mayor of Prague insists on stepping up cooperation with Taipei

Prague Mayor Zdenek Hrib promised this Friday that both the authorities of the Czech capital and those of Taipei, Taiwan, will continue their cooperative relations, despite recent warnings from China that the Czech delegation censored and even reached around to warn the President of the Senate of that country, Milos Vystrcil, that he would “pay a heavy price” for his “betrayal”.

In a joint press conference with Taipei Mayor Ko Wen Je held in the capital city of Tiwan, Hrib stated that the goal is to maintain “beyond politics” “cooperation” with these “twin cities” with Prague.

On the last day of the Czech delegation’s visit, Hrib announced that the authorities of both capitals will be working together on a number of educational, cultural, environmental and technological initiatives, and will even be related to the fight against COVID-19.

Hrib has also announced that the Prague Philharmonic will tour Taiwan next October after China decided to cancel the visit the main Czech music institution had planned for 2019 because the Prague government questioned the Beijing principle that “a China “advocates.
