Dianamrca health authorities will offer their citizens third booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from next week, the country’s health minister Magnus Heunicke announced this Friday.
Although the option is initially only available to people over 65 years of age, all citizens can opt for a third dose at least six months and 14 days after receiving the second dose.
The third dose has already been used in people with weakened immune systems and in nursing homes, according to the Danish chain DR. Authorities estimate that around 1.5 million people will be vaccinated with the third dose in the coming months.
In Denmark, a country of nearly six million people, around 75 percent are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Since the pandemic began, authorities have recorded 2,678 deaths and 368,575 infections, according to Johns Hopkins University.
