Demonstrators in Beijing are calling for the US Consulate in Hong Kong to be closed

A group of demonstrators related to Beijing gathered at the United States consulate in Hong Kong this Saturday to call for the closure of the diplomatic mission amid a diplomatic crisis between the consular missions between the two countries.

The protest comes after China has ordered the United States to close its consul general in Chengdu, southwestern Sichuan province, in response to Washington ending its mission in Houston, Texas.

The United States ordered the consulate to close on the grounds that bilateral relations were “imbalanced” and reasoned that the measure was to protect “the country’s intellectual property” and “private information”.

In response, members of the Hong Kong Defenders group held their private protest in front of the Chinese territorial consulate on Saturday, throwing eggs at President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and calling them “sinners” and “demons”.
