The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) appointed Delfina Gomez Alvarez as the new owner of Public Education Secretariat (SEP) After last week, he announced that he would propose Esteban Moctezuma Barragán as Mexico’s ambassador to the United States.
In his morning press conference, the Mexican President emphasized that this is the first time that a primary school teacher has held this position. “I believe that a primary school teacher never entered the Ministry of Public Education. Of course there were teachers, students, but primary school teachers, group teachers, I never think,” he commented.
AMLO also recalled that Delfina Gómez had served as Federal MP, Mayor of Texcoco and Senator of the Republic. The teacher replaces Esteban Moctezuma Barragán, who was proposed by the President as Mexican Ambassador to the United States after current Ambassador Martha Bárcenas announced her resignation from the service.
