Before Rory MacDonald goes for Bellator gold versus welterweight champion Douglas Lima at UFC’s Bellator 192, he will be wearing DASH apparel. That’s because the cryptocurrencypaymentsproject has inked a promotional deal that’ll have the fighter repping their logo at the fight.
UFC Watchers, Meet DASH
MacDonald faces Lima on Saturday night, January 20th, in what’s shaping up to be an intense UFC bout in The Forum in Los Angeles. And the event will be the inauguration of MacDonald introducing the iconic Dash logo to mainstream audiences.
Thanks to a masternode proposal on the cryptocurrency’s network entitled, “Dash for the Belt with Rory MacDonald,” MacDonald secured 330 coins — worth over $315,000 USD at press time — in exchange for promoting the cryptocurrencyproject at Bellator 192.
The initiative will see MacDonald wearing “branded outerwear” among other responsibilities. Per MacDonald’s original campaign proposal:
“Rory has committed to wearing Dash branded outerwear for his many public appearances leading up to the fight, during the ‘walk-out,’ during the fight and after the fight. As part of the sponsorship, GreenCandle will be sending a swag package to Rory for his pre-fight interviews and gym workouts to have Dash on full display for the build-up of the event. Rory will be tweeting about Dash and possibly mention it during interviews. During the walk-out, Dash-branded attire will be seen front and center on the t-shirt and shorts. During the fight, Dash will be visible on the shorts and after the fight with a Dash ‘trucker’ hat.”

A New Wave of Sponsors?
MacDonald’s partnership with Dash may be one of the firsts of its kind, but it most certainly won’t be the last. If there’s anything that’s true in the cryptocurrencyecosystem, it’s that copycats are a dime a dozen.
And while many will perceive athletes and celebrities teaming up with cryptocurrency projects as gimmicky, it’s a sponsorship dynamic that’s common in every major sportsindustry in the world today. Love it or hate it, such collaborations do generate dialogue, which can in turn generate more adoption.
