New York City Mayor Democrat Bill de Blasio has come under fire for defending the police after a city police van in Brooklyn rammed protesters to protest George Floyd’s death.
“As the Mayor, the police are under your leadership. This moment demands leadership and accountability from each of us. Defending and apologizing when a New York police truck hits a crowd is a mistake,” said Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez , according to the newspaper “The Hill”.
“Trucking over people should never be normalized. It doesn’t matter who does it. It doesn’t matter why,” said the Democratic congresswoman.
De Blasio announced an investigation into the incident on Saturday, but defended the officials involved and said he would not “blame” those trying to lead an absolutely impossible situation. “It is inappropriate for demonstrators to surround a police vehicle and threaten officials. It is wrong,” he argued.
