Former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa this Tuesday agreed to be the candidate for the Vice-Presidency of the National Union for Hope Movement (UNES), with former Minister Andrés Arauz as the presidential candidate in the elections scheduled for February 7th Andennation .
“I take on the responsibility that my colleagues give me to run as a candidate for the Vice-Presidency of the Republic,” Correa said during a press conference held practically this Tuesday, according to the Ecuadorian newspaper El Comercio.
The former president wanted to make it clear that he did not apply for this election nomination, stressing that this is “a great effort” on his part and that he is doing it “for the collective dream of the civil revolution” that he launched during his administration.
The Ecuadorian press had already expected on Monday from UNES sources that Arauz and Correa would be the presidential couple of the left coalition to which the “Correista” Fuerza Compromiso Social belongs. The couple must be confirmed in the primaries on August 20.
