The UK Department of Health reported 1,940 new cases of coronavirus this Friday. This daily rate confirms the upward trend in infections and has been unprecedented in the UK since May 30th.
A total of 342,351 people have contracted the virus since the pandemic began, while 41,537 people have lost their lives in COVID-19, ten more than what official statistics recorded on Thursday.
Boris Johnson’s administration, which has called for not lowering its vigilance at the start of the school year and gradual return to work, has implemented localized tightening of restrictions and greater vigilance of travelers with quarantines among measures to contain the virus those who come from countries considered risky like Spain.
Former Brexit Minister David Davis has proposed adopting the German formula so travelers can avoid these quarantines if they test negative, but Johnson himself has once again defended isolation as “an important part of the repertoire” of containment measures against COVID -19.
The need to control the airports themselves was also questioned as they could “give a false sense of security”. The “Prime Minister” estimates that according to the BBC, only 7 percent of cases would be identified with this system.
