A group of Colombian engineers is proposing the design and development of a platform based on blockchain technology: Agro-Chain with BigchainDB for managing the agricultural supply chain in this country. This was announced by Taylor Francis Online on its website.
Looking to improve supply chain management (SCM) and traceability control in the agricultural sector The proposal is proposed of this technological platform dedicated to Colombian agricultural trade using blockchain technologyas a solution to agricultural supply chain (SCM) management and control over the internet, using this country’s agricultural negotiation process as a case study.
The project was funded by the COLCIENCIAS (Colombia) grant: 812 from 2018 at Francisco José de Caldas District University by the GIIRA Research Group.
Among the people who have carried out this project, we can highlight Kevin Gordillo Orjuela, systems engineer and master’s student in information and communication science at the Faculty of Engineering at Francisco José de Caldas District University in Bogotá. Paulo Alonso Gaona-García, Associate Professor and active member of the GIIRA Research Group at the Faculty of Engineering at the Francisco José de Caldas District University of Bogotá and Doctor of Computer Systems and Services for the Internet from the University of Oviedo, Asturias Spain and MSc. Sciences in Information and Communication Systems from Francisco José de Caldas District University, Carlos Montenegro Marín.
The engineers, who have one common denominator: their interest in blockchain technology, run this proposal as a solution to the trust problems that arise from human interaction with transactions in the system.which, in theory, should create trust and security with the application of this technology in the supply chain of the Colombian agricultural sector.
Thanks to blockchain technology, the agro-chain platform offers a decentralized, transparent and manipulation-proof market ecosystemwhere farmers and consumers can implement a cooperative agricultural ecosystem.
BigchainDB, in turn, is like a blockchain-based database that offers high performance, low latency, decentralized control, immutable data storage, and built-in asset support.
This platform enables developers and companies to implement blockchain proofs for concepts, platforms and applications with a blockchain database. that support a wide range of industries and use cases.
BigchainDB, start with a distributed big data database and then add blockchain capabilities. This platform complements the decentralized building blocks for storage, processing and communication. It can also be used in conjunction with high-end decentralized computing platforms, as well as identity, financial assets, intellectual property, and sidechain applications and protocols.
