Colombia orders mandatory isolation in the Amazon to stem the coronavirus pandemic

May 15, 2020

The Colombian Home Office ordered Thursday the Amazon Governor Jesús Galindo Cedeño and the Mayor of Leticia Municipality, Jorge Luis Mendoza, the mandatory preventive isolation and the closure of all open activities to slow the pandemic’s pandemic progression of the corona virus in the area.

The provision, signed by Interior Minister Alicia Arango, justifies the decision by demonstrating “a negative change in the behavior of the coronavirus epidemic that the Department of Health deems to be an exceptional risk” in these areas.

The exception to the rule are the activities that are required to maintain health. This means that all residents of the department will remain in the mandatory preventive isolation until 00:00 a.m. on May 30, 2020.
