The Chinese Ministry of Health confirmed Tuesday that the number of imported and locally transmitted cases in the Xinjiang region, home to the Muslim Uyghur minority, has fallen after 16 and nine infections, respectively, compared to previous days.
A little less than a month ago, authorities decided to close Xinjiang’s capital, Urumqi, in western China, due to a significant upswing that has so far infected 535 people, although 264 have already managed to overcome the disease.
In total, China has registered 25 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours. 16 newly imported cases need to be added to the nine in Xinjiang. Of these, four were discovered in Shanghai, while a single infection was known in the autonomous region of Inner Mongolia and in the provinces of Zhejiang, Fujian, Shandong, Sichuan and Shaanxi.
With these new data, China’s balance has risen to 84,737 cases of coronavirus, while 2,216 positive results have already been verified from abroad, of which 2,058 have overcome the disease.
