The Chinese Ministry of Health registered another 36 new cases of coronavirus on Monday, most of which were locally transmitted and confirmed in the Xinjiang region.
In particular, 30 cases of local transmission were identified, 28 of them in Xinjiang, home of the Uyghur Muslim minority, whose authorities decided more than two weeks ago to close their capital, Urumqi, after an increase in infections.
The other two locally transmitted infections have been confirmed in Liaoning Province, while the remaining cases come from abroad. According to Chinese health authorities, four were diagnosed in Guangdong, two in Shanghai and two more in Sichuan.
With these numbers, China’s account is now 84,464 infected, while cases from abroad have risen to 2,098. In addition, the Chinese Ministry of Health has reported that 21 new asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 have been reported, including 12 from abroad.
