The Chinese Ministry of Health this Sunday confirmed an increase in imported cases compared to 14 positives of local transmission in the Xinjiang region, home to the Uighur Muslim minority, after authorities decided to close the capital Urumqi three weeks ago a clear upswing that has so far led to the infection of 592 people.
In total, China has registered 49 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours. Add 35 newly imported cases to the 14 in Xinjiang. Of these, 18 were discovered in Shanghai, another four in the provinces of Sichuan and Shandong and three in Guangzhou and Shaanxi, two in Liaoning and one in Zhejiang.
With these new data, China’s balance has risen to 84,668 cases of coronavirus, while 2,169 positives have already been found from abroad, of which 2,037 were able to overcome the disease.
In addition, the Asian country’s health authorities are not aware of any additional deaths from COVID-19, so the death toll remains at 4,634.
