The Chinese authorities on Tuesday asked the army to avoid “throwing the first stone” against US forces in the disputed waters of the South China Sea.
Sources close to the matter reported to the South China Morning Post that the parties have stepped up their activities in the region as Beijing tries to avoid increasing tension in the region.
With that in mind, the Asian giant’s authorities have ordered senior army officials to conduct a “containment drill” against maneuvers by warships and fighters of the United States’ armed forces.
In July, the aircraft carriers “USS Nimitz” and “USS Ronald Reagan” conducted exercises off the Chinese coast. In addition, they have launched a series of “reconnaissance missions” in the vicinity of the Canton and Fujian provinces in recent weeks.
