China continues to see declines in recent outbreaks in Xinjiang and in imported cases

The Chinese Ministry of Health confirmed Wednesday that the number of imported and locally transmitted cases in the Xinjiang region, home to the Uighur Muslim minority, continues to decline after 11 and eight infections respectively.

A little less than a month ago, authorities decided to close Xinjiang’s capital, Urumqi, in western China, due to a significant upswing that has so far infected 635 people, although 302 have already managed to overcome the disease.

In total, China has registered 19 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours. Eleven newly imported cases need to be added to the eight in Xinjiang. Four of these were discovered in Shandong Province, one in Hebei, Canton, Sichuan and one in Shanghai.
