The Chinese government has expressed its “deep dissatisfaction” and “firm opposition” to US security forces’ entry into the Chinese consulate in the city of Houston, Texas, this Saturday in the recent series of diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
Law enforcement officials in the United States violently entered the consulate facilities on Friday after concluding that their personnel were part of a network of Chinese army infiltrators in various cities across the country.
In response, State Department spokesman Wang Wenbin has assured that the Chinese consulate facilities in Houston perform only a strict function of diplomatic and consular premises.
“China has expressed great discontent and firm opposition to the United States’ forced entry into the Chinese Consulate General in Houston and has made a solemn complaint,” the spokesman said in a statement picked up by the official news agency. Chinese Xinhua.
