China appoints Zheng Yanxiong to head the Beijing National Security Bureau in Hong Kong

The Chinese State Council appointed Zheng Yanxiong as head of the Chinese government’s National Security Bureau in Hong Kong on Friday.

Together with Yanxiong, Beijing has appointed Li Jiangzhou and Sun Qingye as deputy directors of the office created under the new national security law for the area, which came into force on Wednesday.

In particular, the rule provides that a Hong Kong national security enforcement agency will be set up to conduct its own investigations.
