China and Russia vetoed an expansion of the border system that enables humanitarian aid in Syria at the United Nations

Russia and China vetoed the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday to paralyze an expansion of the border system that enables humanitarian aid to be transferred to the Syrian civilian population.

The resolution, which, if it is not adopted, will paralyze humanitarian aid that almost three million people depend on as of Friday, aims to keep the border crossings through which the United Nations has been providing food since 2014 open send and deliveries to the Syrian people.

This latest proposal was developed by Germany and Belgium and provided the possibility of extending this humanitarian aid through two border points with Turkey for another year without taking control of the government of Bashar al Assad.

Russia, the Syrian president’s great ally, has pushed the text back, as the German ambassador to the United Nations, Christoph Heusgen, confirmed for the DPA news agency.
