The Chilean Ministry of Health confirmed 1,198 new cases of coronaviruses in the country this Sunday, one of the most severely affected in Latin America, which has registered more than 345,000 infections since the pandemic was declared.
Chile has confirmed a total of 345,790 infections of the disease. The total number of deaths is 9,112 after 92 new deaths on the last day, as the ministry reports on its Twitter account.
The number of patients recovered is 318,095, according to the balance of the Under Secretary of State for Support Networks, Arturo Zúñiga. There are also 1,592 hospitalizations, 253 of which are in critical condition.
The weekend in Chilean politics and society was marked by the decision of Chilean President Sebastián Piñera to adopt the constitutional reform this Friday, which can take up to 10 percent of the provisional savings from the system of fund administrators de Pensiones (AFP), the the country’s private pension system without paying taxes due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The reform will be sent to the Comptroller General of the Republic this Monday. The Chilean government has been criticized and its approval in parliament has been a major blow to the executive, who was considering the possibility of vetoing or going to the Constitutional Court.
