The Chilean Ministry of Health has registered 1,965 new infections in the past 24 hours, an increase compared to data in the past few days, which has diagnosed 418,469 people with COVID-19 in the South American country since the pandemic began.
Authorities had confirmed 11,494 deaths from the disease as of Friday, 72 more than Thursday, while 932 remain in intensive care, 121 of them in critical condition, reports the Chilean newspaper El Mercurio.
The government announced the protocol for the next national holiday this week to avoid large family gatherings on September 18th, 19th and 20th. Following criticism from some regional leaders, Health Minister Enrique Paris has urged all authorities to “join the national effort” and avoid “delegitimizing” the central executive.
With that in mind, government spokesman Jaime Bellolio has recognized that not all regions are in the same situation as regards the virus, but he has defended the introduction of measures at the national level, taking into account the “mobility” that exists between the US in different areas.
