The Chilean Ministry of Health reported on Saturday that the country’s 310,000 cases of coronavirus have been exceeded, confirming more than 2,500 infections in the past 24 hours.
Minister of Health Enrique Paris said 2,755 more positive results were added on Saturday. This means that a total of 312,029 infections have occurred in Chile and 6,881 people have died as a result of the pandemic in the country.
The minister stressed that the number of infections “improved slightly”. “These are hopeful numbers. The positive rate (for diagnostic tests) is 16 percent, we have dropped and it is at the lowest average level of the past seven days,” he said, according to the local newspaper ‘La Tercera’.
Health authorities have indicated that 1,999 patients continue to be treated in COVID-19 intensive care units and have confirmed 405 asymptomatic cases.
The country’s most affected area is the Santiago Metropolitan Region, which has confirmed 236,699 and more than 5,700 deaths by Saturday.
