Chile has passed the 60,000 COVID-19 cases this Friday after setting a new record of nearly 4,300 infections in the past 24 hours, while the death toll is already over 600 and healthcare is reaching its limits.
As of Thursday, 9:00 p.m., the State Secretary for Public Health, Paula Daza, reported 4,276 new cases, of which 3,866 had symptoms and 413 were asymptomatic. Chile has already registered 61,857 cases, including 25,342 recovered patients. On the other hand, 41 more people have died in the last 24 hours, increasing the total number of deaths to 630.
“We are very busy increasing the capacity of beds, mechanical ventilation and measures such as quarantine and isolation for people who cannot do this at home, they can do it in nursing homes,” the minister said in turn. of health, Jaime Mañalich.
According to the Ministry of Health, 850 people with mechanical ventilation are in the hospital, 159 of whom are in critical condition. In addition, critical bed occupancy across the country reached 84 percent, increasing to 94 percent in the metropolitan area where the capital is located.
