Chile registered 980 new cases of coronavirus on the last day. This is a record number of infections registered in a single day, for a total of over 20,000.
Under Secretary of State for Health Paula Daza reported in an appearance that there were 980 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday at 9:00 p.m. (local time), 104 of which are asymptomatic, for a total of 20,643 infected.
Daza has indicated that there have also been ten new coronavirus deaths – eight in the metropolitan area, one in Ñuble and the other in Biobío – which have already had 270 deaths from Covid-19.
The Chilean official has linked this drastic surge in new cases to diagnostic tests performed, noting that “due to the generalization of the tests, more cases without symptoms are likely to occur in the next few days.”
