The Chilean government, through its Defense Minister Alberto Espina, announced on Thursday an additional deployment of 14,000 military and police officers to enforce quarantine in the 25 municipalities of the capital city of Santiago, which will be subject to government-mandated quarantine this Friday.
“We are putting all the meat on the grill with the armed forces, the police and the police, and we are working together on this enormous challenge to combat the corona virus and obviously maintain public order and the security of the citizens,” said Espina.
In recent days, Espina has held meetings with his partner, Interior Minister Gonzalo Blumel, to coordinate a plan at the national level to enforce the government-mandated quarantine, which, unlike other countries, has no impact Regions.
Only a few municipalities known as municipalities in other countries are subject to quarantine because the government relies on three principles to enforce these measures to restrict movement. They are the region’s health structure, the number of cases in the past two weeks per million inhabitants and their concentration per square kilometer.
