On the last day, Chile recorded another thousand cases of coronavirus on average over the past few days, bringing the total to over 23,000. The Santiago metropolitan area is the source of infection that most worries the government. Therefore, it announced a new expansion of the quarantine to several municipalities this Wednesday.
Health Minister Jaime Mañalich has reported that 1,032 cases of coronavirus have been detected in the past 24 hours, compared to 1,373 on Tuesday and 980 on Monday, so they stay on the same fringe. There are already 23,048 positives.
Mañalich has stated that there have been six more deaths from Covid-19, so there are already 281 deaths while another 486 people remain in intensive care, of whom 385 need respirators.
The metropolitan area remains the government’s primary concern for contagion, so Mañalich has announced plans to expand the quarantine to ten more communities starting at 10 p.m. local time on Friday. The measure was extended to the entire city of Santiago earlier this week.
