In Belgium, the number of new infections with corona viruses increased by 12 percent compared to the previous week. This emerges from data from the National Health Service, which however indicate that the downward trend in statistics on hospital admissions and deaths.
According to the authorities, the increase in infections can be observed in all regions of the country, although it is more pronounced in the provinces where there are large cities such as Antwerp or Liège. In addition, the majority of new infections in the active population are diagnosed, ie in patients between 20 and 46 years of age.
The total number of positives confirmed by laboratory tests in Belgium has been 63,039 cases – with an average of 99.7 new daily cases – since the pandemic started, while 17,926 patients have been hospitalized and a total of 9,792 people have died.
The panel of experts advising the federal government on the exit strategy from detention in Belgium warned on Wednesday that the reproductive rate of the virus had returned to over 1, and called for caution in the population and the authorities when de-escalating restrictive measures.
