The Cape Verdean authorities extradited the Colombian Alex Saab, the alleged front man of the Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, to the USA.
Saab traveled to the United States from Amílcar Cabral International Airport in Cape Verde that Saturday at 4:50 pm, according to the Cape Verdean newspaper A Nação, which cites “well-informed” sources.
Saab is therefore in a US Department of Justice plane on its way to the US, according to these sources.
Washington accuses Saab of laundering $ 350 million to pay for Maduro’s corruption by the U.S. financial system. Saab was arrested in June 2020 while stopping for fuel on a Cape Verde island, a country that has approved his extradition to the United States.
Saab has given assurances that it will not cooperate with the US judiciary or “betray” Maduro. He declared himself a “victim” and claimed to have been tortured by the Cape Verdean authorities.
