According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), one in 18 people who live outside their country is Mexican. According to the UNAM Center for North America Research (CISAN), Mexico is one of the four brain exporting countries in the world – only behind Great Britain, the Philippines and India.

Thanks to the advantages of the Internet, it is now possible to maintain contact in real time with Mexicans who even live on other continents. Therefore, creating a Mexican gastronomy cookbook online is a good business idea. It’s about designing and managing a place where Mexicans living abroad not only have the opportunity to remember how to prepare a dish from their country, but also to purchase the ingredients.

How?

“The cookbook can be delivered on a content management system that is easy to use and maintain. Something like WordPress is recommended, ”says Manuel Siordia, project manager at Infotypes. Finally, “it will be necessary to come up with a good system for organizing recipes by categories or tags so that users can find everything easily”.

In order to generate online traffic, the expert recommends investing in search engine optimization (SEO) so that internet users constantly come to the website looking for certain recipes. Unless you want to invest in professional search engine optimization, you need to make sure that each recipe is well labeled and has keywords that think about how people are looking for it.

The profits come from the sale of advertising space in the cookbook. The upside is that you can sell banners and mentions to large ingredient producers, agricultural producers, and even entrepreneurs with organic produce businesses. Remember that they must have the necessary permits to sell abroad (i.e. export of food and perishable goods).

The investment can vary. The standard would be just the site (based on a template) and the entrepreneur would be responsible for feeding them with recipes and pictures. With that in mind, Manuel quotes it roughly between $ 10,000.00 and $ 15,000.00, “depending on whether hosting services, maintenance, and domain purchase are required”.
