Burkina Faso is planning to move the Mentao refugee camp for security reasons

The government of Burkina Faso announced on Tuesday its readiness to relocate the Malian refugee camp in the city of Mentao (north) to another area of the country, where around 6,500 people live for security reasons.

“If the actors agree, we will move into the operational phase of moving the Mentao camp to Dori,” said Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Seydou Sinka, the AIB state agency in Burkinabe reported.

He said that the refugees would be housed in the Goudoubo camp, arguing that “it is slightly larger and has security measures that would allow him to better take care of the refugees in Burkina”.
