Buenos Aires confirms it will go to the Supreme Court to cut funding for the city

The head of government of the city of Buenos Aires, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, has announced that he will decide before the Supreme Court of Argentina on the budget cut of the capital in order to reassign it to the province of the same name, as he has the “unconstitutional” measure.

After the unprecedented police protest on Wednesday, Argentine President Alberto Fernández announced an increase in funds for the province of Buenos Aires in addition to his official residence in order to cut the capital’s budget.

The government will set up a new fund to divert expenses currently going to the city of Buenos Aires. Specifically, this means a reduction in the federal tax distribution for the capital by one point, around 35,000 million pesos (around 393 million euros).

According to Rodríguez Larreta, the decision is “wrong” and “inappropriate”, while he has complained about not being consulted on the matter.
