Brussels is ignoring Johnson’s offer and insisting on protocol adjustments that it will not renegotiate

The European Commission on Wednesday put forward its proposal to make “tailor-made” adjustments to simplify the application of the protocol for the two Ireland that the UK will not comply with after Brexit, and has called on Boris Johnson’s government to adopt a ” Intensive “dialogue” to seek an agreement as soon as possible, ignoring the commitment London launched the day before the call for renegotiating the entire Pact.

“This proposal is a real response to Northern Irish concerns,” said Community Executive Vice-President Maros Sefcovic at a press conference in Brussels to explain the details of the latest offer to London.

He has also called on the Johnson administration to make “honest and intense” commitments to make it possible to reach an agreement “in the coming weeks” and offer the Northern Irish “the solution they deserve” and has asked ” to focus on the “positive” part of a dialogue.

In doing so, Sefcovic wanted to underline that the community executive is aware of the implementation difficulties identified after Brexit, but will in no case pursue London demands that it considers misplaced, such as the review of the role of the European Court of Justice Union.
