May 20, 2020

On the last day, the UK added another 363 COVID-19 deaths and nearly 2,500 new infections, while the number of hospitalized patients fell below 10,000 for the first time since March government.

With the new deaths, the country now has 35,704 deaths, while a record number of tests performed in a single day was 177,216. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has set a goal of running 100,000 daily tests and plans to reach 200,000 a day by the end of May.

In total, there have been 248,293 confirmed cases in the country since the pandemic started, although the Ministry of Health insists that this number – which includes only those who have tested positive – could be higher.
